Bond Election 2017

As members of the Parent-Teacher Organization for Norwalk Elementary Schools, we are reaching out to ask your support and action in the bond election taking place Tuesday, Feb. 7. Please voteYes” to the bond, which will fund proposed construction projects to help ensure the children of our fastgrowing community have the space they need to learn, and our district maintains its competitive stature to continue to draw the highestquality educators.  

Due to the districts strong fiscal organization and planning, passage of this bond will not raise your property levy.

Among the proposed construction projects are:   

  • New Elementary: The construction of a new elementary school for 2nd and 3rd grade students, including necessary land purchase at 5516 G14 Hwy
  • Oviatt Upgrades: Additional cafeteria and kitchen space; increased security measures; larger art and music classrooms; paved southeast parking area
  • Middle School: Expanded corridors; increased security measures; HVAC and electrical upgrades, and paving of gravel areas south of the school
  • High School: Renovated media center; expanded corridors; improved security; renovated Career Technical Education areas

Special PTO Meeting – Jan. 30th – Save the date!

You are invited to attend a special PTO meeting to be held:
Monday, January 30th at 6:30 PM
at Lakewood Elementary School cafeteria

6:15 pm – Meet and Greet
6:30 pm – Meeting – Superintendent DT Magee will be attending the January 30th PTO meeting to share information about the proposed projects and address your questions.
After Meeting – PTO Board Members will be available after the meeting to answer any PTO related questions.

The Norwalk Community School District will be holding a bond election on Tuesday, February 7th, requesting the voters of the district to approve issuing of a bond to fund construction of a new 2nd and 3rd grade elementary school and renovations at the middle school, high school and Oviatt Elementary.

To help you become more acquainted with the proposed projects and voter request for bond funding, please refer to the attached FAQ.  You can access a more detailed FAQ on the school’s website at http://www.norwalkschools.org/2016/12/2017-bond-election-faqs/.  At the end of the FAQ you are welcome to submit a question or comment regarding proposed projects.  Your question can be submitted anonymously and the response will be added to the FAQ.   If you include your contact information a school official will respond to you directly. Lakewood Holiday Shoppe

Our last post only included info for Oviatt Elementary. Here are the dates and info for Lakewood Elementary…

Every year the PTO runs a Holiday Shoppe for the students to purchase gifts for their family.  Students will be able to shop before school and during lunch hours.

To help provide support for the students, we need adult help during the days of Monday Dec. 19th;  Tuesday Dec. 20th; and Wednesday Dec. 21st.  We are looking for volunteers to help kids shop and checkout.  This is a fun and heartwarming experience.

The PTO is in need of wrapping paper donations(just left over rolls…there are usually a few gifts that don’t fit in bags) and any rolls of extra tape.
